Beacon Business Innovation Hub

Purpose of job:  To teach and assess curriculum at levels 1 and 2 across the age range and to different abilities. To operate and manage the school café with support from learners.

The ideal candidate will have worked in hospitality, with experience in events, Food and Beverage Service as well as commercial experience. A strong understanding of both classical and modern service techniques is essential as well as a desire to teach and to inspire young people to progress into the industry at the highest level.


Previous experience of working in a professional hospitality environment and experience of delivering quality food and beverage service training is Essential.

General Duties

  1. Conduct practical sessions within a professional kitchen,
  2. Prepare the professional kitchen before and after practical sessions
  3. Deal with suppliers to order receive stock
  4. Transport students to and from the professional kitchen and delivering theory based sessions
  1. Teach Vocational Catering and Hospitality to a range of learners
  2. Deploy a wide range of teaching and student-centred learning strategies that ensure

(a)   the most effective learning, continuation, achievement and progression of students, and

(b)   the most effective use of teaching time and other resources.

  1. Fulfil the role of a group tutor for up to 20 students; this includes marking registers daily, monitoring and reporting on attendance and punctuality. Conducting 1:1 meetings with students
  2. Providing pastoral care and guidance in order to support the students learning and progression.
  3. Stimulate and promote effective, student-centred, independent learning strategies for students of all levels of ability.
  4. Undertake continuous (formative) and summative, controlled assessments of students.
  5. Contribute to the development and design of course and course modules and schemes of work.
  6. Contribute to planning and scheduling process of both student and learning and the overall programme, contributing to the personal learning plans.
  7. Contribute to the development of learning resources and flexible learning strategies.


To carry out such other duties consistent with the level of the post at the direction of the Principal.



  • A degree or relevant professional qualification
  • A relevant teaching qualification or working towards
  • A minimum level 3 qualification in specialist area
  • Level 2 English and Maths


  • Working in industry
  • Cooking and food preparation
  • Supervisor/line management


  • Extensive knowledge of subject area
  • Ability to use relevant equipment
  • Willingness to participate in development and training opportunities
  • Awareness of the current DfES nutritional standards for school pupils
    • To undertake innovatory developments in all aspects of the curriculum and its delivery
    • Effective communication skills with students, parents, carers and professional colleagues
    • The ability to work in a creative, innovative and flexible way to meet the needs of students
    • Ability to relate well to students
      • Excellent classroom and behaviour management skills.
      • High quality administrative and organisational skills essential.

      • To stimulate and promote effective learning among diverse and challenging learners
      • To utilise flexible work methods (including application of information and communications technology) as a learning, assessment and administrative tool
